LiveOAK Media is an online media company that focuses on the issues important to creating and maintaining a green lifestyle, economy and society. Organically grown, LiveOAK took shape in 2009 with the merger of two independent personal projects: greenUPGRADER.com and ecopolitology.org.
GreenUPGRADER.com first started in early 2008 as a by-product of founders Matt Embrey and Doug Gunzelmann’s personal attempts to find practical and enriching ways to green up their lifestyles. GreenUPGRADER took off and they formed LiveOAK Media, expanding with CrispGreen.com, EarthandIndustry.com and Doug’s personal project adventure, AmazonPilgrim.com.
Ecopolitology.org started in 2007 as a creative outlet and informal repository for some of founder Timothy Hurst’s graduate research ideas. While serving as editor of RedGreenandBlue.org and contributing to several of the largest green blogs on the internet, Tim continued to informally posit his special brand of energy and environmental ideas at ecopolitology in his spare time. In the fall of 2009 Tim Hurst joined LiveOAK Media as a partner and the network’s Executive Editor, and ecopolitology became the network’s channel for reporting on the politics of energy and the environment.
Today, the LiveOAK Media Network is one of the largest green news networks, but still organically owned and operated. By leading the conversation about green issues, the LiveOAK team aims to advance the principals of sustainability by making them meaningful and accessible to everybody from entrepreneurs and policy makers to students and stay at home moms and dads.
